Supplemental Instruction is an exemplary, peer-led academic assistance program designed to help students succeed in challenging courses. Supplemental Instruction Leaders (SILs) collaborate with faculty to organize and deliver additional study sessions to aid students in learning course material.
Benefits: starting pay is $15/per hour
HASC Tutors assist students with homework, project, and assignment fundamentals; help students understand concepts; and apply effective learning strategies. Tutoring peers is a rewarding experience as tutors not only empower their peers, but also strengthen their own conceptual knowledge and academic performance. HASC Tutor work primarily in a one-on-one capacity with NIU students only.

Academic Coaching is the one-on-one process of helping a student examine academic concerns and perceived barriers to success. Peer Academic Coaches (PACs) provide individual semester-long support, assess the student’s strengths and needs, and devise a personalized plan of action in the following areas:

HASC Desk Assistants help members of the NIU community with accessing HASC services by making appointments, checking in guests for appointments, and providing general student information through front desk operations. The ideal candidate is an undergraduate student who is dependable, organized, detail-oriented and friendly. Additional duties include data collection and clerical tasks pertaining to the functioning of HASC.

A University Writing Center (UWC) undergraduate peer or writing consultant will perform the following duties:
An undergraduate peer consultant must be at least a second-year, full-time student in an NIU program who has successfully completed or met NIU's first-year composition requirements.
Undergraduate peer writing consultants must be willing to work a consistent schedule for at least 10 hours per week each semester. They select their own schedules within UWC hours of operation.

Graduate assistants must be enrolled full-time in an NIU graduate program or have an approved underload status. They must be willing to work a consistent schedule for 10, 15 or 20 hours per week, depending on their appointment, during each semester. Graduate assistants select their own schedules within UWC hours of operation.
